The usher & greeter team at HBBC fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher & greeter team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

If you are interested in becoming part of this ministry, here’s a look at some of our Usher & Greeter Ministry Guidelines.

Greeters:

  • Attempt to welcome each guest that comes through your entrance.
  • Don’t forget to hand each guest a bulletin.
  • If the guest has children, ask if you can walk them to the nursery and/or children’s building

Head Usher Duties:

  • Please fulfill the following duties every service. Only usher on your scheduled date.
  • Stay at the welcome station as much as possible so that scheduled usher can check in with you. If you are walking around, they will not be able to find you.
  • If you are missing ushers or greeters, use your standby list to fill in. Only ask people on the list. You are not to fill in yourself.
  • Remind security detail to check radios and take them to the nursery and children’s building. The radios will be located in the front office by the computer.

Ushers:

  • Only the head usher is to find replacements for those that are not in the service. If you are not the head usher, you are not to enlist extra help.
  • Check In with the Head Usher so he knows you are present and able to keep your duty. He will be at the welcome station.
  • If the service has already begun, please escort the members and visitors to a seat. Do not allow them to seat themselves or walk around to find a seat.
  • During all special music, please stand in the hallway and hold the doors. Do not allow people to enter until completion of song.
  • Prior to the offertory, please sit on the 2 usher pews in the back of the auditorium. This will enable you to be in place to take the offering and to escort any late-arriving guests or members. Special Note to the Finance Team Computer Operator/Balcony Usher, at the beginning of the service please move to the balcony.
  • Remind members not to congregate in the hallway.
  • Make sure the double doors to the auditorium remain shut.
  • Be flexible and attentive to what’s going on.

Security Detail:

  • There will always be 2 ushers on security detail for every service. The security detail will be asked to serve each service of the week they are scheduled: Sunday morning, Sunday evening and the following Wednesday evening.
  • Prior to each service, give the Nursery Workers and Zoo Zone Workers a radio. Ensure that the radios are working properly and set on the correct channel. This will also allow you to notify the workers that you are on Security Detail and that they are to contact you in case of an emergency.
  • After you have fulfilled your usher duty during the offertory, have one usher remain in the foyer for the entirety of the service so that you may monitor the doors while the other usher walks the grounds every 15 minutes. Walking the grounds includes checking in at the children’s building and nursery as well as checking the parking lot.
  • After the invitation, the security detail ushers are to stand beside each double door to collect connection cards.
